What Fall in Love with a Rescue do

Fall in Love with a Rescue is a rescue centre specialising in the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned and mistreated Sighthound and Lurcher dogs left in council pounds across the UK.

We believe all dogs deserve a second chance at life, and all the dogs saved by us are given the best care possible, whether that means years of rehabilitation for injuries pounds would have put them down for, or simply a few days of love and attention before they find their new home.

We rehome our dogs under contract, ensuring that the dog will remain the property of Fall in Love with a Rescue for the rest of their life. All our microchips have a dual registration system so that the dog’s new owner details can be added alongside our own. This is simply a precautionary measure to help keep the dogs we save out of pounds after they leave our care, should anything happen to their new owner.

About us

The Rescue was founded in the memory of my Father Ernie Farmer...Dad spoke Horse and Dog and was almost telepathic in knowing how to deal with each animal on a individual basis. I was fortunate enough to have my Dad for 50 years and he passed on to us so much knowledge and the need for patience that by observing the animal we are dealing with they will let us know what they need to be happy ... Even in his nineties everyone went to him for advice and when we have a particularly tricky case the most often used phrase is 'what would Dad do?'.

Rescue HQ is at the family home in Berkshire situated on a Andalusian Stud farm breeding this ancient breed of horse for competition ... our horses have the same back up for life as our dogs and always have a home here to live out their days.

We do from time to time Rescue horses that have fallen on hard times to live out their lives in peace on the farm and at the moment have several horses in their mid to late twenties. We have also rescued sheep and have a thriving wildlife population of deer, pheasants and Foxes.
We are also fortunate to have Red Kites and Buzzards living on the farm.

We have a very strict no kill policy and no animal is ever put to sleep unless advised by a vet that it is their time.  We had Douglas D Dawg with Degenerative Myelopathy who came in starved and beaten covered in cigarette burns and no hair at 19 kilos. It was his time 8 months later but he had loved his wheels when his hind legs went but when this hideous disease progressed to his front legs it was time to say goodbye. We do take palliative care cases ... recently Halley who was only treasured for one month but was loved dearly and died surrounded with love and kindness in her final days.

We also will take in the severely broken ones with legs snapped in two and working with marvellous surgeons manage to save their legs rather than amputate. This is a huge financial undertaking but we have some wonderful supporters and fund raise with auctions and raffles.
This past year we have had three badly broken lurchers.
Wallace front left 3 breaks. Luke front left infected and bone through the skin and Misty recently with both front legs 5 breaks in total.

Although we personally pick up the day to day running costs, the donation made to Rescue when you adopt your new family member pays for the regular medical costs of the next dog in from the pound that has timed out and done their 7 days.
Each dog needs a full health check, microchip, vaccines, flea and worm treatment plus off course the Neuter operation ... and this is for the ones who need no further treatment or any problems found. Dogs are assessed living in the home with us or with a foster family.

All dogs have Rescue Back Up for life ... if circumstances change and you can no longer keep your dog he MUST be returned to Rescue to either find a new family or have a home here for life.

Unfortunately because of abuse, behavioural issues, old age or ill health or aggressive behaviour not every dog is suitable for re homing. These dogs live out their life with us in a happy relaxed atmosphere in whatever situation suits them best. We currently have 11 permanent Residents with quite a few OAP's.
